Judy writes: Out-to-Lunch Bunch, Wednesday, October 26, 2011 @ 11:30 A.M

 

Once again our Lunch Bunch will be gathering around the usual table at the Clarion, October 26 at 11:30. Last July we missed several because of vacations and busy schedules but all of us that made it were our usual chatty selves. We hope to have good group this time. If you have not joined us before, come on out. Just show up, we are not formal, just a fun lunch hour.

 

Sad news to report, we received a note from Mike McNeil letting us know that Ron Sondergard passed away.

Mike wrote this note: "I just got back from Raleigh where I attended to my long time friend, Ron Sondergard's funeral.. I know Nan knew him in Eugene Field as well. His health hasn't been the best for the past several months. He and Sharon and my wife Albie and I went to my beach condo at Panama City Beach in May and he got around pretty well. I talked with him about 2 weeks ago, but he wasn't as chipper as he normally was, and he blamed it on a new medication he was taking. Although Ron died of a heart attack at home, he has had complication of heart problems and diabetes for a number of years. He enjoyed our 50th reunion so much several years ago. I enjoyed seeing Arnie at the funeral and he gave a very nice eulogy and told about some funny times they had growing up in Manhattan.

We had  Frank Siegle, Don Noyes, Franc Whitney, Robert Stewart, Jim Budden, Ruth Gladow Screen, Judy Burnett Goodson, Darlene West Fronce, Barbara "Bee" Lanning, Janet Krider Duncan, Viv Manly Johns, Norma Cornelius Larson, Margene Blasing Moss, Monty Williamson.

We are a chatty bunch having fun and the time goes by too quickly.

Photographer Janet is missing from the photos. I promise to get you next time.

News from the group:  Viv is a world traveler, they recently returned from a cruise to Antarctica. The weather was more mild than they expected, 40's.  Their next trip will be to India in the Fall.

Monty travels all over too, his recent trip to Florida included a visit with John Twiehaus

Don has a condo in Florida, that gets them to a fun place often.

Janet  is a volunteer at the historical museum. She gives ironing demonstrations from the past(among other activities), I can imagine what the little 4th graders think of a "sad iron."

  Viv reported on their recent trip to Antarctica.  It was their trip of a lifetime (and they've been nearly everywhere by now) but it surprised them by not being as cold as they expected.  (they knew it was summer 'down there' but still, there is ice – yet the sun was still warm.)  And Viv surprised herself by not being afraid of the penguins!

All of us had a good time catching up on family, activities, and our work.

We always have a vacant chair saved so hope others can stop by.

Out to Lunch Bunch Quarterly luncheon NEWS

Wednesday, January 26, 11:30 at Clarion Hotel, 530 Richards Dr.

 

We have had a nice group each time. Wish all of you could stop by.

Since that is not likely to happen we want to hear from you with any news or updates.

All class contacts are shared at the luncheon.

 

We feel it is important to keep in touch with everyone.  Nan Heintzelman Wells will continue to post all news on our website (www.mhsclassof1958.com) so please e-mail or call one of us with any news you have to “share with us today” (said in memory of Mrs. Ball and 8^th Grade Social Studies.)

 

The quarterly luncheons will be the first month of each quarter – January, April, July, and October -

on the last Wednesday of the month. All luncheons will be at the Clarion Hotel at 11.30am.   Reservations are not needed, so if you can plan to be in Manhattan on any of those days, come on out.  And please let us know if you will be in the area at any other time during the year and we will arrange to get a group together.

 

Many of us celebrated 50 year wedding anniversaries and special occasions this last year; this is great news to share.  If you have a special occasion, drop one of us a note and let us pass on the news.

 

Sad news happens also, Doris Self Conley and Richard Hansing passed away this past year.

Their memorials are on the website.

 

Be assured that we think of each of you and look forward to hearing all news and updates.

MHS 1958 CLASS NEWSLETTER

Hello '58 Classmates

Out to Lunch Bunch Quarterly luncheon was held

Monday, July 26, 11:30 at Vista Drive In, 1911 Tuttle Creek Blvd.

14 attended

 

 

We had 14 at the luncheon this time.  A  fun time and it keeps all in touch.  We shared information from Mike McDonald's wife and also from Arnie Sondergard.. Mike enjoyed looking at the website and catching up on class news. Arnie is well and enjoying his new grandson, after waiting 13 years.  He continues riding his motorcycle and enjoying life in retirement area of Idaho.

Judy received a note from Jo Anne Murphy and she has a new E-mail address (see Secure Contact Information). She has been traveling and enjoying  going to operas. She maybe in Manhattan in September.

We, also, welcomed JON BRAKE, who was in school with us until his family moved his sophomore  year ( ? Janet says she may not have remembered this right.)

Our treasurer, Monty Williamson, reports that our coffers are decreasing to the point that we must cut expenses, pass the hat for donations or win the lottery. Probably two of the three could be possible.  We are open to any other suggestions.

We feel it is important to keep in touch with a newsletter, and the website. Therefore, we will discontinue the quarterly mailings and have a yearly newsletter, starting January 2011.   Nan Heintzelman Wells will continue to post all news on the website, www.mhsclassof1958.com, if you have computer access or e-mail let one of us know.

The quarterly luncheon will be the first month of each quarter, January, April, July, and October. The date will be the last Wednesday of each month. If you have plans to be in Manhattan in any of those months contact us for the time and place.

Let us know if you are in the area at any other time during the year and we will arrange to get a group together.

We had a really nice time at our Class Lunch, as always.  And while there is a core group of regulars, there are different people every time, too.  This time we had 13 people: Judy Burnett Goodson, Janet Krider Duncan, Frank Siegle, Franc Whitney, Barbara Lanning, Robert Stewart, Ruth Gladow Screen, Rudy Reynolds, Jim Budden, Norma Cornelius Larsen, Barb MacFarlane Howe, Louann McKinnon Dunn and Margene Blasing Moss.  I've attached a couple of photos.  I had to take one from one end of the table, then one from the other.  Jim Budden took some pictures, too, so maybe his are better.

Our next Lunch Bunch time will be in April and the group liked the restaurant and thought Wed was a good day – so mark the Calendar for the last Wed in April … April 28th… same place (EARLY EDITION –  EAST SIDE), same time (11:30 am).

I didn't put where the out of town people drove in from, but let's do that – Louann from Salina, Rudy from Topeka, Franc from Wamego and Jim Budden from Berryton, KS somewhere near Topeka.  (Bee lives in Keats, but works here.)
