SHERIAN [SHERRY/SHERI] SOWELL STATEN

Sherian A. Staten, 74, of Keats, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at her home in Keats.
The family provided the following information.
Sherian was born on Nov. 10, 1939, in Abilene, the daughter of Alto “Bus” M. Sowell and Maybelle A. Padgett Sowell. She moved to Manhattan as a child. She attended schools in Manhattan and was in the class of 1958 of Manhattan High School.
On Sept. 15, 1957, she was united in marriage to J. Dee Johns. Later she was married to Joseph Staten. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2013.
Sherian worked as a hairdresser and also in the family business. She also worked for 20 years at Kansas State University as an administrator in the financial aid department. Sherian enjoyed spending time reading and her family and friends were all very dear to her.
Sherian is survived by her four children: Kimber Weisbender (Mike) of Wamego, Kelley Johns (Gigi) of Kansas City, Mary Jo Montague of Keats, and Jack Johns of Manhattan. She also leaves behind two step-children: Phil Staten and Tony Staten. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Noah Weisbender, Jeremy Johns, Jessica Montague, Samantha Montague, Alex Hedke, Joshua Johns, Madison Johns, and Sierra Johns; her step-grandchildren: Patty Weisbender and Michael Weisbender, Garrett Staten and Brooke Staten; her great-grandchildren: Avery Meloan and Alexa Johns; step great-grandchildren: Tucker Jenne, Tripp Jenne; and her two brothers, Fred Sowell and Ron Sowell.
Funeral services for Sherian will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at the Keats United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Eisele officiating. Cremation will follow the services.
Memorial contributions in memory of Sherian are suggested to the Sherian Staten Memorial Fund. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
